Missouri Women Who Write

Every feminine member of the Missouri Ruralist family feels acquainted with Mrs. A.J. Wilder whose interesting and helpful contributions have appeared in this paper for a greater number of years than any other contributor. They may not have recognized their old friend, however, in reading the excellent feature article “Whom Should She Marry?” signed by Laura Ingalls Wilder which appeared in a recent issue of McCall’s Magazine. Mrs. Wilder has long been a magazine contributor but is too modest to tell about it in writing for us.

There’s an old saying, “like father, like son.” Like mother, like daughter, we find Mrs. Wilder’s talented daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, a Missouri product, being featured in the big magazines. One of the most interesting little stories that the Missouri Ruralist editor has read was “Cher Ami” the story of the carrier pigeon that saved the famous “lost battalion.” This story by Mrs. Lane appeared in the August Ladies Home Journal. Mrs. Lane, who has been connected with a San Francisco newspaper for a number of years, now is one of the best known woman writers and has written a number of books. She grew up in Wright county, Missouri, and Southwest Missouri folks especially are rightfully proud of the brilliant record she is making.
